So I've got some good news. Christmas time came around and my parents decided to pick me up a new guitar. They bought me a Breedlove acoustic. It's leaps and bounds nicer than my old electric. Over the past few weeks I learned that the good old Rocker stratocaster can't hold a tune. So now when I play the new one it actually sounds good. All this time I thought I just sucked at this. Go figure right.

So I tried to post a link to Hero of war but I'm not too sure it works. At least it doesn't on my phone. Recently I've been having some trouble with my guitar. A little while back I broke my high E string and have been playing without it for a bit. I found that everything seems a little flat but didn't sound too bad. Last night I found an old string. And just my luck it was the high E. So I put it in but I'm not sure I did it right. It seems to protrude a little bit above the others and my tuner says it's right but everything seems to sound funny. I don't know if I'm just used to playing without it or if it's actually off. It's a problem I'm going to have to solve soon because it is really starting to bug me.
Here's a link to the first song I learned to play.

I have been having a little trouble lately. I was thrying to play three little birds by Bob Marley and I broke my first string. Normaly I don't think this would be much of a problem, but my guitar is a walmart special and the strings aren't installed the same way as your average guitar. So far I haven't been able to find a video of how to change the strings on this guitar. So until I figure it out I guess il just work on power chords and what not. I recently learned how to play Holiday by Green day. It a good song and it's not too difficult. Also other than the solo you don't need the first string at all.

Update

It's been a while since I've posted anything. And to be honest I have been very lazy about this blogging business, but nt about playing. I've done a couple of the book songs like ode to joy and amazing grace, but I have put most of my time into learning hero of war by rise against. It's always been a song I like and I'm a big fan of rise against so I thought it was a good choice. I can almost play it fluently and even sing along to it. I've also learned a few bars of superstition by Stevie Wonder.

Hi, my names Spencer, and I've always wanted to play the guitar. I bought a guitar a while back and took a few lessons, but after a month or so I lost motivation, stopped taking lessons, and haven't touched it since.  In English we were asked to learn or accomplish something and blog about it. There was a substantial amount of freedom as to what it has to be, so I took it as an opportunity to try and finish what I started.
The purpose of this blog is to document, and record my progress. I will post how long I've practiced, what I've practiced, and the challenges of learning an instrument. Keep in mind that I have no teacher and no other resource other than google and an old level one book full of scales and a few cords. Im also a little musically challenged. I have no natural aptitude for music, no pitch or rhythm. My progress may be slow but I am determined to acquire at least a basic understanding of the instrument. By the end of this semester hope to be able to read notes and tabs, and learn at least one fairly difficult song.
I will post all of my practice material, and songs I'm learning. So if you want to play guitar feel free to follow along and comment your own progress. Also for all you musicians out there i'd never turn down a tip.
